Entrepreneurship:
This course is designed to acquaint the student with the problems and challenges of starting and operating business ventures. The course is for those who have a specific or general interest in pursuing an opportunity, shaping it into a
venture plan, and potentially launching it as a viable business in the future. The course is particularly aimed at students who aspire to develop entrepreneurial skills such as the ability to operate under informational and resource constraints,
the ability to plan for the future, and the ability to argue convincingly the merits of ones proposals. While these skills
equip students to manage new business development projects in large firms, the course also enables students to launch
their own startups and to test startup as a career option. The course consists of lectures, class discussions, group work
and a business plan presentation.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
- Generate, identify, and screen business ideas
- Analyze the feasibility of a venture in terms of the opportunity (market & technology), team, and resources that it is comprised of
- Pitch a business venture in various formats, including the elevator pitch and business plan format, to potential investors
- Understand the various sources of start-up and business financing, including Venture Financing and how to negotiate for such financing
