Phlebotomy Technician

This Phlebotomy Technician course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required for proficient blood collection and specimen handling. The course covers key areas such as anatomy and physiology, venipuncture techniques, and the proper use of phlebotomy equipment. Participants will learn about safety protocols, infection control, and the importance of accurate labeling and documentation. Ethical considerations and patient communication skills will also be emphasized. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on practice, participants will develop the competencies needed to perform phlebotomy procedures confidently and efficiently in various healthcare settings.

• Understand the importance of the Phlebotomist within a healthcare setting as it relates to improving the quality of
healthcare services.
• Demonstrate an understanding of concepts used in the medical laboratory.
• Understand the parameters of responsibilities in relation to the Phlebotomist and other associated professions. •
Identify key features of Anatomy and Physiology.
• Understand the various departments of the medical laboratory and their operations as they relate to the duties of
the Phlebotomist.
• Demonstrate the ability to work well with other medical professionals.
• Demonstrate good communication skills with patients and other medical professionals.
• Understand the practical aspects of the Phlebotomist within the medical laboratory and be able to perform tasks
related to these procedures.
• Adequately perform Phlebotomy collection protocols in Venipuncture and Capillary Puncture.
• Apply knowledge gained in contributing to organizational objectives and goals
• Competently perform skills associated with the collection, handling and transport of blood and non-blood specimens
such as Urine, Stool, Semen and Sputum.
• Practice principles of Laboratory Safety and Infection Control.
• Demonstrate competency in the use and care of routine laboratory equipment.
• Confidently use medical terminology in relation to the profession.
• Demonstrate the ability to make sound ethical decisions.
